Leveraging my privilege for change

2018-2022

PROTEST ART

  • Created hundreds of picket signs distributed at the Black Lives Matter, AAPI, Musicians Union, Sunrise Movement and Climate Strike protests in Los Angeles from May 2020 to April 2021.

  • LAPD Homicide Project: wrote the names of every individual killed by LAPD from 2000 to 2021, color-coding for “race” and including some details of the shootings, on 54 sheets of 150x60cm paper.

2018-2020

ANDREW YANG'S PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN 2020: LOS ANGELES

  • Volunteered for Andrew Yang's 2020 Presidential Campaign and ran the Los Angeles chapter from residence.

  • Organized weekly events to create guerrilla marketing materials including designing stickers, posters, large "freeway" murals and lapel buttons.

  • Campaigned door-to-door and supported Yang at conventions and events.

1994-2020

  • Trustee of Idyllwild Arts Foundation, the educational arts institution founded “for the purpose of promoting and advancing artistic and cultural development primarily for the advancement of instruction in music and the arts.”

  • Building and Grounds Committee: Collaborated with faculty and staff to maintain and improve campus. Devised architectural guidelines and Master Plan for campus. Chose architect for new Concert Hall.

  • Development Committee: Helped raise $10,000,000 for new concert hall.

  • Created Parent Association to connect parents to campus life.

2006-7

CREATIVE WRITING TEACHER

  • Created an after school creative writing program for 4-6th graders 2006-7 at Saint Marks School, Altadena, CA.

  • Guided students through creative writing exercises, culminating in an anthology book at end of terms.

2008-2011

CHILDREN'S MUSICAL THEATER

Wrote and Produced musical theater for 4-6th graders at Saint Mark's School, Altadena, CA

  • Wrote 5 curriculum-appropriate plays with music teacher to include 30 students. Subjects ranged from Greek mythology, American history through food, and used student research into their ancestry to treat a play incorporating each student's personal history.

  • Designed and built costumes, props and scenery.
